Project case study
Kalgoorlie super-pit fine filter material.
60,000 tonnes of engineered fine filter aggregate produced on site to spec for a tailings facility at the Kalgoorlie super-pit. The reputation builder.
Project overview
Engineered fine filter material for a tailings facility at the Kalgoorlie super-pit. The structural drainage layer of a new tailings storage facility, designed to drain rather than retain. Multiple specialist crushing contractors had attempted the spec and been unable to hit it. Elite produced 60,000 tonnes in spec across the campaign window. The campaign established Elite as the contractor capable of producing engineered tailings filter aggregate in WA.
Scope of works
- Mobilisation of two-stage crushing train to a Kalgoorlie site, Goldfields
- Test-run sampling and screen sizing tuned to the engineered filter spec
- Continuous in-spec production against tight particle size distribution
- Re-circulation of off-spec material through the circuit
- Daily QA reporting and load-out to the tailings construction crew
Outcomes
- 60,000 tonnes of engineered fine filter aggregate produced in spec
- Tailings facility filter layer constructed using Elite-produced material
- Reputation established for engineered filter aggregate work across the WA Goldfields
- Original 160,000 tonne scope reduced after delivery due to client plan change
